Canon 100-400 Fails Again

26th September 2010
Well, after struggling with this lens for a number of weeks now, I have just asked Warehouse Express, the retailer to furnish me with a copy that actually works. The lens is now pin sharp, however, their is a problem with the Lenses IS which makes the lens difficult if not impossible to use for Wildlife Photography. It is very difficult to explain, but basically the image in the viewfinder leaps around and you can hear a clicking noise as the IS trys to do something (what I don't know!) This can last for up to five seconds, which means the difference between getting the shot or nothing.

I will keep this blog updated with the progress of this issue as it may be of interest for anyone else thinking of purchasing one, or perhaps getting a Sigma instead.

I am now awaiting Warehouse Expresses reply with regard to replacing the lens which is approx 12 weeks old. According to their policy it should now be sent for repair, however, I would argue that this lens should have been replaced when it was sent back to Canon on the first occasion. It wasn't because Warehouse Express had non in stock. We will see if Warehouse Express live up to their awards of Best Online Retailer and Best Specialist Retailer 2010!
