MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP, IDLE VALLEY NATURE RESERVE SATURDAY 27TH JULY 24

Workshop limited to a maximum of six

Our eyes are a miracle of evolution, however they do have their limitations and another world exists that often passes us by. This world can often only be revealed with a macro lens and you will be amazed at what exists under your feet. For that reason this is a fantastic photographic discipline open to many photographers young and old.

What we’ll cover

The workshop will last a maximum of six hours and we will cover basic macro photography and topics such as settings to use, composition, lighting, subjects from plants to insects and the techniques we can use depending on our subjects. I will also look at other forms of macro photography that can be done without a dedicated macro lens. For those who are confident with the basics of macro photography we can also take a look at more advanced techniques such as the use of flash and focus stacking.

The workshop takes place at Idle Valley Nature Reserve, North Road, Retford, Notts, DN22 8RQ
This nature reserve is ideal for macro photography having numerous different environments within its boundaries giving a very large range of plants and insects to photograph particularly at this time of year. There is a coffee shop with toilets on site.

These workshops tend to book up quickly so if you want to join me booking early is advised. There is a possibility of a further workshop in August if demand is high. Cost per person £80.

Ever wanted to see the incredible world all around us?

Our eyes are incredible but they do have limitations and it isn’t until you look at the world through a digital camera with macro lens that this fascinating world is revealed. In this workshop I will take you into this world and guide you to capture stunning images in breathtaking detail.

the equipment you need and who is it for?

To participate in this course you will need a digital camera with a lens with some macro capability. A tripod can also be useful for some methods we will look at. Lenses with resolution of 1:1 or more work best. There are other methods of gaining macro images with standard lenses and if you want to discuss these please give me a call before the day.

what we will cover

On the day we will begin by looking at the basics of macro photography. We will cover a number of methods of getting macro images using different equipment. Basic photography principles such as shutter speed, aperture and ISO and how they will affect our macro shots and how we can manipulate these to get the best images. We will also look at composition, colour, textures and light. I like to spend equal amounts of time with each client on the workshop so don’t worry if some people skip ahead. I would much prefer that you learn at your pace and feel comfortable with what we cover before moving on. For those that may have more experience we can also look at more advanced techniques such as flash photography and macro focus stacking.

The workshop will take place at the Idle Valley Nature Reserve, North Road, Retford, Notts, DN22 8RQ.
This is a fantastic place for macro photography having a number of different habitats located within an extremely large reserve. The are numerous plants and insects to photograph particularly at this time of year. The reserve also has excellent facilities with a cafe, shop and toilets.

in the past this workshop has proved extremely popular and i keep numbers to a maximum of six to enable me to work with each client. I may have the opportunity to provide an additional course in August if required.
