Another New Lens?

15th October 2010
Further to the saga of the Canon 100-400 zoom I am pleased to say that Warehouse Express have managed to agree with Canon to give me a replacement of the above lens, rather than wait for it to come back from its second repair in three months.

So, tomorrow morning will see me out bright and early to try out my new bird feeding site on the edge of the small copse at the back of the house. I set this up a couple of weeks ago and am now having to fill the feeders daily. So far I have seen only members of the tit family and a few finches frequenting it, although on tuesday evening I visited the site only to find three Roe deer under the feeders!

If the lens performs as it should I may update this blog with an image as well as the recent work galleries. I'm also preparing for a trip to Bradgate park near leicester to hopefully catch the deer rut in full swing. Ideally I would like a cold frosty morning but at the moment it would just be good to get out with a fully functioning lens.

Well this young lady turned up this morning. Very happy with the performance of the lens but a pity about the weather. I have set up the feeding station so that the rising sun illuminates the feeding station from the right, but an annoying lump of cloud was determined to follow it this morning. I also need to remove some vegetation that is making for a very busy background to the images.

One of the advantages of having a feed station close to home is that it's easy to pop down there for a few minutes. I have spent some time there this afternoon, drilling holes in a dead tree stump and filling them with peanuts, hopefully this will entice this female woodpecker off the feeder.

We'll have another go tomorrow morning!
