My first visit! (011) - Mammals

I will call this my first visit although I had visited in the day time a couple of times before hand to put down some peanuts. This would be my first tip, badgers love peanuts! On each occasion the peanuts had been taken, to make sure the birds didn't eat them I would bury most of them and it was evident that the badgers where sniffing them out and digging them up.

Perhaps the first point to note is that it is recognised that you will have your best chance of getting good views of badgers in late May and June when the days are longest and the badgers will tend to come out in the light to forage for food.

This first shot was taken at about 9.20pm. I had hoped they would come out earlier, and in fact they did, however they were disturbed by a group of people walking through the nature reserve and shot back underground. It was then about 30 minutes before they ventured out again, and unfortunately I was at ISO 800 and flash. Never the less an encouraging start.
