Landscape Photography Finding your own Images

In this video I headed out to a popular location in Aberdeenshire, the Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve with the intention of photographing many of the well photographed locations located here. To be honest the weather conditions and heavy rain and snow over the previous weeks did not give me any encouragement for producing any stunning images. As it turned out the images from these locations where just OK. However we didn't really care as after making a wrong turn and taking a secluded path we came upon some real magic, hardly ever photographed. The moral of the story get off that well worn track, explore and adventure and you may find that hidden gem just around the next corner!

Landscape Photography Lumsdale Valley near Matlock

At long last an opportunity to get out and do some landscape photography. This week I went out again with a couple of vintage lenses attached to my Sony A7r3 as well as a brand new Viltrox 24mm f1.8. This valley with its mix of waterfalls and old mill building cut into a deep valley just seemed made for trying to create a fantasy style image. The torrent of water being pushed over the falls and inaccessibility of most of the mill buildings really makes my life difficult but I know that when this happens you just have to make something out of what the photography gods have given you. Do I get any sort of fantasy image? Watch to find out.

Wyming Brook Landscape and Wildlife Photography

This week I meet up with fellow Nottinghamshire photographer and Youtuber Scott Walker of Walks on the Wild Side for a day of photography at Wyming Brook. This is a location I have always wanted to visit but never managed to get there. Being so close to our home county we decided to pop across the border and explore the place together while splitting up to come back with our own individual takes on the same location. Take a look at what I came up with as I explain some of my techniques for waterfall and fast flowing water photography.

Sony A7r3 Vintage Lens Landscape Photography

After picking up a Sony A7riii to use alongside my Sony A6400 I decide to take the camera out into the Derbyshire Peak district with a number of vintage lenses that I had previously used with my Sony A6400 before getting a dedicated landscape lens. The lenses are the Pentax SMC 50mm F1.2 the Pentax-A 28-80mm Zoom and the Pentax SMC 135mm F3.5. With windy changeable weather I take a look how the lenses perform to decide if they will perform well enough until I can get a dedicated landscape photography lens.

Industrial Light Painting in the Floods

This weeks Youtube video is now live and what a struggle it was this week. Not only lockdown but extensive flooding left all my wildlife sites under several feet of water. I say this as I look out of the window across Lake Carlton. So with few wildlife options I head off in the dark to a somewhat flooded Fledborough Viaduct to try my hand at a little bit of simple light painting. As always like and subscribe.

Using Old Vintage Lenses on Modern Digital Cameras

My new video is now live on Youtube. In this weeks episode I look at using old vintage lenses from the 1980's on my brand new Sony A6400 mirrorless camera. Lenses for todays mirrorless cameras can cost thousands of pounds, here I show you that you can get stunning results with lenses costing less than forty pounds from places like ebay. In my opinion the first image ranks as one of the best landscape images I've taken this year, so what do you think? Fancy giving it a try? Please like the video if you do and subscribe to the channel if you haven't. Stay safe and see you next week!
